M&M's project has just started
M&M's 2023 project (with Mélodie) has started!
We have rehearsed for the 2nd time on April the 22th of 2023, for two song we are working on: one guitar and voice re arrangement of 'Ori and the Will of the Wisps' ; one re arrangement of 'Suzume no Tojimarji' main theme (and maybe a guitar version of it also). Here is a glimpse of that rehearsal day from my Youtube channel:
For the general recording that day, I used the 'Tascam DR-05X' recorder, which is a portable USB music recorder/audio card perfectly fit for instruments. I bought it on thomann.fr which is one (if not the most) very useful website for musicians.
Ori and the Will of the Wisps
Instrumental part (Manh)
I created a guitar and vocals re arrangement of the game's main theme. I will porbably put it on MuseScore / other internet platform when we are going to release the track on Youtube. Stay in tune! It has been very long I haven't play guitar. On a classical guitar, strings are more spaced each other, and from the fretboard. The fretboard is also wider, which is different from an acoustic guitar. Of course, strings are in nylon and not in steel, such as in acoustic guitar.
Starting to play frequently again, I feel that I have to exercize my hand muscles more for bar chords! And I still have to perfectly play the track by heart so I can focus on the emotions I want to convey, rather than on technical difficulties.
Vocals part (Mélodie)
Mélodie tells me that when not vocally prepared yet, it is a bit difficult to sing it. However, as soon as she gets into it, that's fine. In my point of view, she conveys the mood of the track in the good way. See, the "Wisps" and the "Forest" are subtles, mysterious and unreachable things. Therefore, the overall atmosphere should be windy, steamy and volatile. Initially, I did not think that was hard to sing, but it is actually.
Suzume no Tojimari
Instrumental part (Manh and Mélodie)
For this song, that day was the first time we rehearsed. We then had to google the lyrics, and the chords. Mélodie brought her Kalimba also, which was a nice touch. After some discussion, we decided to produce maybe two different version: one "complete" one with piano, kalimba, cello, adding a cappella, maybe some guitar etc. ; and another simple piano / guitar version.
"Complete" re arrangement: the plan is to record each instruments and the vocals separately, then mastering it on Reaper (my favourite DAW, or digital audio workstation). We plan to record ourselves playing the instrument while recording for the sound also. Then, we can edit the video on Premiere Pro.
Simple re arrangement: we randomly tried a guitar version, out of the chords and it sounded great! The piano version also sound great. On the video, I only played chords but we will have to build more musicality of course. Of course, stay tuned!
Have a nice weekend my friends!
